The World Bank approved a US$3.5 million payment guarantee supporting a 100 MW Voltalia solar project. The guarantee helped mobilise US$80 million of capital investment, including more than US$54 million from EBRD.

The 177-hectare plant is expected to generate more than 240 GWh per year. Expected avoided emissions exceed 230,000 metric tons of CO2 annually, with power equivalent to about 60,000 households. Voltalia's project company signed a 25-year PPA with National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan.

The structure shows how a small guarantee can mobilise much larger private and institutional capital; generation, emissions savings and the household equivalent remain projections.
