Uzbekistan confirmed that its free-trade regime with Turkmenistan took effect on 25 February 2025 after the required procedures were completed. The protocol was signed in July 2024 and approved in Uzbekistan by a January 2025 presidential resolution.
Two-way trade reached US$1.14bn in 2024, a 5.5% year-on-year increase. Customs duties were removed for qualifying domestically produced goods, subject to exceptions, while restrictions affecting mutual trade were eased.
Lower border costs can improve margins and market access for manufacturers, distributors and logistics operators. The investment case depends on rules-of-origin compliance, excluded product lines, customs execution and sustainable volumes rather than the legal regime alone.
