The project combines a 250 MW solar plant with a 63 MW battery energy storage system in Bukhara. Financing included up to US$53 million from IFC, up to US$106 million from ADB, FMO and JICA, and a World Bank guarantee of up to US$12 million.
The plant is expected to generate more than 585 GWh annually and avoid over 327,000 metric tons of CO2 each year. Clean power is expected to reach about 75,000 households. Masdar's project company signed a 25-year PPA with National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan.
The 25-year PPA and combination of project debt, guarantees and development-finance capital establish an important precedent for renewables and storage.
