IFC was appointed to structure PPPs for multispecialty hospitals in Samarkand, Jizzakh and Kashkadarya. The private partner was expected to construct, operate and maintain the facilities.
The mandate followed Uzbekistan's first healthcare PPP, which provided dialysis services to more than 1,000 patients annually. IFC's Uzbekistan investment commitments exceeded US$400m as of 1 May 2023.
The appointment expanded the social-infrastructure pipeline and prospective demand for long-tenor capital and operators, but an advisory mandate is neither financing nor a closed concession.
