ADB approved a US$125m loan. The project covered 12 transmission lines totalling about 359km across seven regions. Four 220kV substations—Faizabad, Obi-Khaet, Zafar and Zarafshan—were to be reconstructed and modernised.
The systems were designed to support digital control and renewable-energy integration. ADB's cumulative commitments to Uzbekistan were about US$10.8bn at the time.
Grid reinforcement reduced a key bottleneck to adding generation capacity and expanded the sovereign infrastructure and contractor-finance pipeline.
