Construction began on the first phase of a 3,000-tonne-per-year green-hydrogen project. Hydrogen and power purchase agreements for the first phase had been signed in May 2023.

The second phase was designed around 2.4GW of wind power and 500,000 tonnes per year of green ammonia. The project was Uzbekistan's first green-hydrogen development. Uzbekistan was ACWA Power's second-largest investment market, with 12 projects, 11 of them fully renewable.

The groundbreaking opened a new investable value chain linking renewable power, chemicals, long-term offtake and export-oriented green fuels.
